Nevada gaming regulators approve guidelines for reopening casinos

Last week the Nevada Gaming Control Board released guidelines that casinos need to follow in order to begin the reopening process.

Yesterday, the Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously approved those regulations.

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak officially extended his stay at home order until 15 May last week, stating that casinos won’t be involved in Phase 1 of the reopening. However, with these health and safety rules approved by the Commission, casinos can get working on a process to begin reopening.

Nevada casinos have been closed since 18 March.

Nevada revenue falls less than 1% in July

Nevada gaming revenue in July fell for the second straight month, continuing the state's up-and-down year in the casino market.

The Gaming Control Board said Friday casinos statewide collected $922.8 million from gamblers during the month, a drop of just under 1 percent. On the Strip, gaming revenue declined 2.1 percent to $524.9 million.

Clark County was a mixed bag of results in July. Downtown Las Vegas casino revenue grew 6.5 percent and the balance of Clark County locations increased revenue 6 percent. But the numbers were offset by an 11 percent revenue decline on the Boulder Strip, which includes Henderson, and a 9.4 percent drop in North Las Vegas.

Northern and rural Nevada, however, helped the state mitigate the south's declines.

Nevada contemplates legalizing Olympic bets

NEVADA -- Nevada may legalize gambling on the Olympics, Bloomberg reported. The suggestion by the Nevada Gaming Control Board was recommended to the Nevada Gaming Commission, the report said. The gaming commission will meet Feb 26, 2015 to further discuss the finer details, Bloomberg said.
