WinStar World to host World Long Drive Championship

WinStar World Casino and Resort officials are pleased to announce the return of the World Long Drive Championship for the third consecutive year to Thackerville, 31 August through 6 September.

WinStar officials signed a multi-year extension with the World Long Drive Association to be the host site for the World Championship.

"At WinStar, we strive to provide memorable and unique experiences for our loyal patrons," said Wayne McCormick, WinStar's general manager. "The opportunity to continue a working relationship with the World Long Drive Association and the Golf Channel presented itself and based on the success of World Championship events that have been held at WinStar in the past, we felt this was a beneficial partnership for all parties. We look forward to once again hosting the athletes and providing a one-of-a-kind experience for fans."

WinStar was also named one of eight World Long Drive Championship sanctioned, qualifying locations. Four competitors from each event will advance to the World Championship, which will feature a 96-person field competing for a $270,000 purse. The WinStar qualifying event will be held 18 and 19 May.

WinStar Casino to celebrate historical Lunar New Year

As the 2017 Lunar New Year quickly approaches, WinStar World Casino and Resort is undergoing preparations to usher in the Year of the Fire Rooster. The historical event officially takes place on 28 January and has been 60 years in the making. The last Fire Rooster year was 1957.

In addition to Lunar New Year inspired decorations throughout the casino, there will be interactive character performers. Statue performers and lion dancers will provide colorful, lively entertainment at the Rome Grand entrance. The dates and times of performances are the following: 22-29 January from 6 to 8 p.m.; 27-29 January from 9 to 11 p.m.; and 28-29 January from 3 to 5 p.m.

"Guests will not be disappointed with the scheduled entertainment and festivities," said Stephanie Callaway, WinStar's entertainment manager. "The Year of the Fire Rooster signifies dawn, awakening and success. We believe patrons will have a memorable time as they help celebrate this exciting time that only comes around every 60 years."

A Vietnamese variety concert will take from on 8 p.m. 29 January inside the Global Event Center. The sold-out Ðinh Dâu 2017: The Year of the Rooster show will pay tribute to the industry's biggest personality alive, famed MC and novelist Nguyen Ngoc Gnan. Also, more than 25 of the biggest names in Vietnamese entertainment will perform in honor of Ngan's 25th anniversary celebration.

WinStar World hosts blood drive

WinStar World Casino and Resort employees came out early and stayed late for the fourth and most successful Oklahoma Blood Institute blood drive of the year held at the casino on Tuesday, 25 October.

Casino officials said 275 employees rolled up their sleeves to donate blood and other blood products.

"WinStar employees went above and beyond for this blood drive," said Wayne McCormick, WinStar's general manager. "It is truly amazing how the staff pulls together for events like this. Their acts of generosity will result in lives saved."

Oklahoma Blood Institute officials said the blood drive could save up to 825 lives. The organization reports that WinStar averages the largest blood drives in the state.

"Oklahoma Blood Institute is proud to partner with WinStar on another very successful blood drive," said Dr. John Armitage, OBI President and CEO. "Averaging the largest single-day casino blood drive in the state, WinStar is a consistent partner that our community can rely on. On 25 October, WinStar hosted the largest blood drive they have ever had. On behalf of the patients across Oklahoma counting on you, we are truly grateful."
