MLB MVP odds released by William Hill

Several new MLB futures markets are out at William Hill as the season inches closer, including MVP and Cy Young. The MVP odds for the American League and National League look quite different, as there’s a runaway favorite in one whereas the other has several contenders near each other at the top.

Mike Trout leads the way for AL MVP odds at +200. The Angels outfielder has three MVP awards already under his belt, with the most recent one coming in 2019. Alex Bregman and Aaron Judge are tied for the second-lowest odds at 12/1 apiece, followed by Jose Ramirez at 15/1 and Gleyber Torres at 18/1.

Anthony Rendon and DJ LeMahieu are each at 20/1, with last year’s AL MVP Jose Abreu close behind at 25/1 along with Matt Chapman.

Over in the NL, Mookie Betts is the +600 favorite heading into his second season with the Dodgers. Juan Soto and Ronald Acuna Jr. are next at +700 each, with Betts’ teammate Cody Bellinger in range at +800.

There are several notable names a little further down the board as well. Fernando Tatis Jr., the recent recipient of a 14-year, $340 million contract extension with the Padres, sits at 10/1. The 2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman has the sixth-lowest odds this time around at 14/1. Major offseason acquisitions Nolan Arenado and Francisco Lindor join 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich at 15/1.

Now let’s take a look at Cy Young odds for both leagues.

It’s a razor-thin differential at the top in the AL, with Gerrit Cole (+220) slightly edging out the reigning winner Shane Bieber (+240). Lucas Giolito (+800), Tyler Glasnow (10/1) and Jose Berrios (15/1) round out the top five.

Just like in the AL, the defending NL Cy Young recipient has the second-lowest odds at William Hill for this year. Trevor Bauer (+550) sent shockwaves around baseball after signing with the Dodgers, yet he still trails Mets ace Jacob deGrom (+300) in this market. One of Bauer’s new teammates, Walker Buehler, is closely lurking at +650.

New Padres stars Yu Darvish and Blake Snell are listed at 10/1 and 20/1 respectively. Other notable names near the top include Max Scherzer (10/1), Aaron Nola (12/1), Stephen Strasburg (18/1) and Clayton Kershaw (20/1).
