Broadway on the Boardwalk drives Atlantic City tourism


Broadway on the Boardwalk completed its fourth season bigger and better than ever. The free concert series on the Atlantic City Boardwalk that features performances from the current casts of today’s hottest Broadway shows, expanded its run to eight Mondays from 8 July through 26 August, and hit an all-time high in attendance with 16,000 people. Additionally, patron surveys prove that the event is an Atlantic City Monday night tourism driver.

618 completed attendee surveys say the following:
80% came to Atlantic City specifically to see the show.
63% live in key Atlantic City tourist markets (Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York).
37% live in the local area.
57% went to an Atlantic City restaurant on the night of the show.
25% went to a casino on the night of the show.
14% stayed in an Atlantic City hotel on the night of the show.
93% enjoyed Broadway on the Boardwalk.
87% see Broadway shows every year.
Broadway on the Boardwalk was made possible with a $250,000 entertainment grant from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA)and the show was produced by JudiLudi Productions. Due to the event’s continued success, the CRDA expanded the grant and show run from three Monday nights in 2018 to eight in 2019. With data from the surveys,the estimated tourist spending is approximately $2.5 million. Additionally, the event’s marketing included digital, social, radio, television, and outdoor and generated over 20 million impressions promoting Atlantic City.

Broadway on the Boardwalk features the cast members performing selections from some of the most popular and critically acclaimed musicals on Broadway today. The 2019 series was hosted by comedian Dena Blizzard and featured songs from 16 Broadway shows that included: Wicked, Disney’s Frozen, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Beetlejuice, Hadestown, Oklahoma, Tootsie, Chicago, Be More Chill, Waitress, Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages, King Kong, Mean Girls, The Apple Boys and Come From Away.
