Las Vegas local hits for over $252,000 at Aliante Casino


A North Las Vegas local had a life-changing visit to Aliante Casino & Hotel & Spa on Wednesday afternoon, 8 March as Michael won a jackpot of more than $252,000 on Galaxy Gaming’s Emperor’s Challenge.

Emperor’s Challenge is played like traditional Pai Gow Poker with a progressive jackpot. After placing a standard wager of $25 and a bonus bet of $5, he drew a 7-card straight flush (2 through 8 of diamonds with a joker), scoring the progressive jackpot of $252,812.

Michael said he plans to use his winnings to pay off his car and take a nice vacation for the first time in over 20 years.

Oleta Adams to visit Aliante Casino

Platinum recording artist Oleta Adams will bring her soulful singing and inspiring hits to Access Showroom at Aliante Casino Hotel and Spa on Saturday, 21 October.

Adams began her musical career singing on worldwide tours with iconic performers Tears for Fears, Phil Collins, Michael Bolton and Luther Vandross. In 1990, Adams released her debut album "Circle of One," which became certified Platinum with the hit single "Get Here." With her musical roots in gospel and her ability to effortlessly cross over into soul, R&B, urban and popular music, Adams has continued to impress fans with songs like "Rhythm of Life," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and "Window of Hope."

Throughout her career, Adams has sold more than two and a half million records and received four Grammy nominations. Aside from her duets with Tears for Fears, Adams has recorded duets with talented artists, including Al Jarreau, David Sanborn, Toots Thielemans, Shirley Ceasar and José James. Adams music has been featured in numerous films, including "Corrina, Corrina, Sleeping With the Enemy" and "Jason's Lyric," and her vocals set the tone in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back."

Most recently, Adams released her ninth album "Third Set" in February. Adams also continues to tour around the world, performing across the United States, as well as in the Netherlands and Germany.

Aliante Casino to host Strunz & Farah

Acoustic guitarists Strunz & Farah will come to Access Showroom at Aliante Casino Hotel and Spa on Saturday, 20 May. Born in Costa Rica, Jorge Strunz has been playing the guitar since age six and learned flamenco and classical styles throughout his childhood. His interests led him to play electric guitar in several rock bands and later led him to jazz and jazz fusion music. Strunz was recognized in 1994 and 1998 by the government of Costa Rica with two Presidential Awards in honor of his cultural contributions.

Ardeshir Farah hails from Tehran, Iran. Having moved to England for his teenage years, he picked up the guitar in with focus on popular music and improvisation. He has performed with many Persian musician expatriates in the U.S.

The guitarists met for the first time in 1979 and have been performing together ever since with their unique hybrid of Latin American and Middle Eastern influences. In 1980, they released their first album, "Mosaico." It received heavy play on Los Angeles jazz media, and helped get them signed to major jazz record label Milestone in the early 1980s. They have been nominated for a Grammy Award as well as held the top spot of Billboard's World Music chart.

1. Tropicana Las Vegas

Reviewers said the Trop has great customer service and feels more like a locals casino than a Strip casino.

Except for this guy: “Anyone else tired of voting? I’m tire of being harassed. This is the last time that I’m voting. I don’t get paid enough for this. I don’t think anyone will believe we have the best architecture if we win that too.”

2. Aliante Casino Hotel

Locals raved about the service at Aliante.

“Its a mix of the quality level you might get at Monte Carlo or Red Rock (not exactly opulent but new and clean) and the value you might get downtown,” one reviewer wrote.

3. South Point Hotel Casino and Spa

Reviewers called the South Point an “all-in-one experience.”

“It’s a great place to take out of town guests because they make them feel like VIPs without costing a small fortune,” one local wrote.

4. Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa

Red Rock got great reviews for a helpful staff.

One reviewer wasn’t too hot on the casino’s cocktails, but overall the casino is rated five stars.

5. M Resort

M Resort gets high ratings for its easy access, plentiful parking and friendly staff.

“Awesome but a wee bit pricey for that far off the strip,” one reviewer wrote. “Awesome bar with exceptional beer options.”

6. Silverton Casino Lodge Las Vegas

Cheerful staff and a relaxed atmosphere help the Silverton make the list.

“This casino is very low key for people that do not like a bunch of crowds and drunks, for people that are there for fun, gambling, eating and drinking,” one reviewer wrote.

7. Green Valley Ranch Resort, Spa and Casino

Reviewers said Green Valley Ranch is the best of all Station Casinos for locals.

“They didn’t have as many movies on as other cinemas in town, so we were limited but just wanted to kill some time,” one reviewer wrote. “Love the casino itself, though.”

8. Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall

Sam’s got good reviews for having a staff that has been there long enough to remember the locals.

One reviewer raved about the daytime bingo cocktail waitress:

“She is very kind and professional she always knows what I want to drink. I want you to know what an asset she is to that company and she is one of the reasons we go there to play bingo.”

9. The D Las Vegas

Locals praised the D for bringing a party atmosphere downtown.

Reviewers suggested checking out the Long Bar.

10. The Orleans

Why is the Orleans a good casino? Well, obviously because of the lack of tourists, reviewers said.

Like most casinos on the list, the Orleans also got props for a friendly staff.
