Holiday gambling news from Las Vegas and Florida

It's our last show of the year, filled with holiday gambling news. We have a coronavirus update from Las Vegas, as well as a sports betting update from Florida and a disturbing report on problem gambling.

We’ve been following Seminole sports betting and Florida for weeks. A Judge ruled the agreement between the two to be ‘invalid’, as it violated the state constitution and the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.After the ruling the Tribe continued with online sports betting and filed a motion for stay pending appeal. The Judge refused to grant them a stay, so they stopped accepting bets. Now it will be up to a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Now DraftKings and FanDuel trying to get voter signatures on a petition to make this issue a ballot measure. Additionally, The Sands Corporation has filed a lawsuit against the Seminoles claiming “tortious interference with business relationships.” In other words, the Sands (along with DraftKings, FanDuel, and others) wants a piece of the sports betting action in Florida.

ALSO... Most people visiting Las Vegas wear their masks how they're supposed to... even out on the Vegas Strip. Now, with the threat of a Las Vegas Omicron surge, the mask mandate is getting an update. The Governor’s policy adviser recently held a press conference where the updated mandate was unveiled. Masks are still required indoors without regard to anyone’s vaccination status. This will remain in effect at least through the winter months, which has traditionally been the worst time for flu. Las Vegas is bracing for Omicron and a surge in coronavirus.
