PokerStars announces 2019 live events for Spain

PokerStars today announced details of its 2019 sponsored live events schedule in Spain, including a new addition to the European Poker Tour (EPT), the EPT Open Madrid.

The brand-new stop kicks off at Casino Gran Madrid on 22 June and will run for nine days, marking PokerStars’ first EPT event in the Spanish capital since EPT Grand Final Madrid in 2011. The full schedule will include a €1,100 buy-in Main Event. EPT Open Madrid is the second event of its kind following the first EPT Open Sochi, which took place last year. EPT Open events offer the same renowned PokerStars-sponsored live events experience as traditional EPTs, but at lower buy-ins.

Time to book Barcelona
Spain is set to see even more PokerStars-sponsored action this year when EPT Barcelona returns to Casino Barcelona from 20 August to 1 September. In 2018, the Main Event set a new record for the number of entrants to an EPT main event at 1,931 entries, generating a total prize pool of €9,365,350.

Players can qualify online for both events at PokerStars.com, PokerStars.es and PokerStars.fr in the coming months.

Campeonato Espana de Poker
PokerStars will also continue its sponsorship of Campeonato Espana de Poker (CEP) in 2019, kicking off with CEP Barcelona in February at Casino de Barcelona. Spain’s longest-running poker tour recently gained international attention for producing the winner of the historic PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) in January. Ramon Colillas topped the CEP leaderboard and turned his award, a free entry into the PSPC, into $5.1 million. Colillas will return to the CEP tables in February to defend his title.

PokerStars will sponsor mulitiple CEP events across the country throughout the year, beginning in Barcelona. More events will be confirmed including an additional stop in Barcelona from 14-20 August, as a warm-up event before EPT Barcelona.

“Spain has a vibrant poker community and we’re eager to continue to develop events, promotions and competitions that feed their poker passion,” said Eric Hollreiser, Director of Poker Marketing. “Ramon Colillas is inspiring a new generation of Spanish players."
