PokerStars wins interim gaming license in Romania

Amaya Inc. has obtained a local interim license for PokerStars.com and Full Tilt to provide online poker, casino games and sports betting in Romania under local regulatory oversight. The company will start the process of obtaining the permanent license as soon as Romanian authorities conclude drafting the legal framework related to gambling.

Players on PokerStars and Full Tilt will remain part of the global ‘shared liquidity’ player pool and will be able to play poker against players from other countries around the world. Amaya will continue to maintain the very highest levels of player fund protection by segregating Romanian player funds into trust accounts. Both brands plan to launch localised software under the new Romanian license.

“We are very happy to offer the world’s leading online gaming brands to Romanians under a local regulatory framework that ensures the highest level of consumer protection and gaming integrity,” said Eric Hollreiser, Head of Corporate Communications for Amaya. “This furthers Amaya’s commitment to the responsible growth of online gaming by supporting local regulation that protects players, creates a viable marketplace and provides revenue for local governments.”

The process of migrating player accounts to PokerStars and Full Tilt will be announced in due course, and the brands PokerStars and Full Tilt intend to provide a full range of products, including poker, casino gaming and sports betting, across all devices in Romania in the future.
