Island Resort Casino unveils major expansion plans

HARRIS, Mich. - Hannahville Indian Community Tribal Chairman, Kenneth Meshigaud, and Island Resort & Casino General Manager, Tony Mancilla, today announce plans for a major expansion and renovation project. The Tribal Council approved a two-year, $8-million project featuring: Second championship golf course Full-service spa Renovation of existing Island Bar into a major Sports Bar venue Renovation of Bingo Hall Re-design of exterior Hotel entrance Numerous other enhancements to the entire facility “Through the years, the Hannahville Indian Community has undertaken projects to enhance and promote Island Resort & Casino, making us a leader in the Midwest gaming resort-and-golf arena as well as offering employment opportunities to well over 700 persons,” said Meshigaud.

“We remain committed to both as we re-invest in the operation, offering additional amenities and enhancements to our guests.” “The management team and employees at the Island are excited about these new amenities allowing us to truly be a full-service resort for customers both locally and regionally,” Mancilla added. “The project is in its early stages, but our guests will see many changes quite quickly. We thank the Tribal Council for their continued confidence in the efforts of our employees.” Situated in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Island Resort & Casino boasts 24/7 Las Vegas-style gaming, including 1,200 slot machines and an award-winning poker room. The resort is also home to Sweetgrass Golf Club, the award-winning amenity course that climbed six spots in Golfweek’s 2015 “Best Casino Courses” list to rank No. 20 in the U.S. Designed by Michigan native Paul Albanese, Sweetgrass was also recently named a top course in the state by GOLF Magazine and Golfweek. Sweetgrass hosts the LPGA Symetra Tour’s Island Resort Championship for a fifth-straight year, June 22-28. The course has been regularly praised by pro golfers for its beautifully crafted layout and unique accents, including five historic bridges and the renowned island green on the par-3, 15th hole.
