Casino talk highlights Japan's gambling addicts

JAPAN -- Japan has an estimated 5.36 million gambling addicts, according to the Japan Times.

Recent discussion around legislation, since abandoned, to legalize casinos has brought attention to the issue, the report said.

Addiction mostly occurs playing slots or pachinko machines and can have devastating outcomes like suicide and financial ruin, the Japan Times report said.
